~~Let the post Johnny Football era begin at Texas A&M. This is the first time the Aggies will line up in an SEC game without Manziel at quarterback and it will be interesting to see how they adjust. The Aggies have been a nearly unstoppable force on offense with Manziel at quarterback and there is no question that they will have to make adjustments with him having moved on. The QB competition will be between Kenny Hill, Matt Joeckel and Kyle Allen. Allen is without question the most talented and since he enrolled early you have to like his chances of landing the job. The Aggies also have to replace the best receiver in school history in Mike Evans but they should be fine with the "basketball team" of receivers they have returning - 6'3 Ja'Quay Williams, 6'5 Seals-Jones, 6'4 Edward Pope, 6'6 Cameron Clear and then you add in 6'6 freshmen Frank Iheanacho and the potential superstar Speedy Noil and the Aggies have the weapons to spread you out and make your life miserable on the perimeter. You also can't forget about their stable of tailbacks. On the offensive line JUCO transfers Jermaine Eluemunor and Avery Gennesy should be instant impact players.
On the defensive side of the ball is where the Aggies have a lot of questions. They signed some very talented players, headlined by the "all-world" defensive end/linebacker Myles Garrett who just may have been the best HS player in the country last season which should instantly boost their pass rush. However, this season they need their secondary play to improve and they also need to improve up the middle where they were constantly pushed around last season which in a large part led to their four losses last season.
There is no question that the Aggies offense will be explosive this season. They could be much like Missouri's offense last season with the corps of receivers that was nearly impossible to cover. But the questions will be can a QB step into Manziel's shoes and survive the pressure and can the defense improve. At the end of the day, the play of the defense will be the difference between another 9-4 season and a potential 11-2 or better season.
